NFL Survivor Pool Picks Week 14 Expert Predictions and Analysis
Well, last week was another struggle for our NFL Survivor Pool picks. We tried to pass along some off-the-radar teams that we thought had a good chance to win but three of four of our suggestions went south, including our top play of the Vikings over the Seahawks, and they embarrassed themselves with a blowout loss at home. This has been a very tough season and most pools are long done now. I got knocked out of my pools very early this year, which I am not used to as I have lasted pretty long or won (or split the pot) in most years I have played. But this is a season I want to forget for both Survivor Pools and betting as this was just a down year for me. I am, however, looking forward to getting back on track next season!
Here in this space I will offer some NFL Survivor Pool picks for Week 14 for some off-the-radar teams that may not have been used yet.
NFL Survivor Pool Picks Week 14
Top Play: Kansas City over San Diego
The Chiefs were a team I was very high on to start the season. I am a fan. That, however, doesn’t play into my Survivor Pool picks or betting. One of my biggest (winning) bets ever was against the Chiefs in the playoffs. But they were my Achilles Heel to begin the season as I had a few big bets on them. Then when they had lost a bunch of games and then Jamaal Charles went down for the season I thought they were done and started to fade them. Now they have won six straight and are pretty much a shoo-in for the playoffs. They are playing as well as any team in the league. They have won those games by an average margin of almost 19 points per game. They just demolished this Chargers team in San Diego by 30 points a couple weeks ago. San Diego has been plagued by injuries, and with the team probably moving to Los Angeles in the offseason morale is at an all-time low. Unless Philip Rivers has one of those near-500-yard passing games, this will likely be another blowout.
Pick No. 2: Tampa Bay over New Orleans
This game looks like a changing of the guard in the division as Tampa Bay has a bright future while all the Saints have is a lot of questions and not many answers. The Bucs have the chance to sweep the Saints this week. I really like their chances. This New Orleans defense is one of the worst I can remember. You get the feeling that Bucs rookie QB Jameis Winston can have one of those four- or five-touchdown days here. But the reason Tampa Bay has won three of their last four games is because their defense has really stepped up. We think they will be able to control Drew Brees and Co. on D and they should be able to do just about whatever they want offensively. The Saints actually played pretty well last week at home vs. Carolina yet still lost. That has to be demoralizing for this team, and we don’t see them putting a lot of effort in the rest of the way. There are definitely going to be some changes in the Big Easy this offseason.
Pick No. 3: New York Jets over Tennessee
My confidence level goes down after my first two picks. I actually like the Titans here plus the points as I have wagered on them and think the spread is too big at seven points, but I do think the Jets will find a way to win a close game. This team doesn’t have a dynamic offense, but the defense is very good. New York does enough to win, but I just don’t like them to cover a big spread like this. The Titans have been pretty competitive the last few weeks, but the Jets are the better team and are playing with confidence after two straight wins. I think they will win a close one here on Sunday as they really need this game to stay in the wild-card hunt in the AFC.
Pick No. 4: Houston over New England
I really like the Texans as my top bet for the week catching three points, so I have to include them here, even though I would hardly ever recommend an underdog for NFL Survivor Pool picks. But I think this line is off and by my handicapping I have Houston as a three-point favorite. The Patriots are really banged up and have lost two straight, including a game to lowly Philadelphia last week. Rob Gronkowski is doubtful for this game, and Tom Brady doesn’t have any offensive weapons right now. I think this team is in real trouble for the playoffs unless they get some players back. Houston has been playing very well lately despite a loss last week. They have won four of five games. They have an excellent passing game, and their defense should frustrate Brady and the New England offense.
