NFL Survivor Pool Picks Week 10: Opening Line Report
I took Atlanta on Thursday night football for my Week 9 NFL Survivor Pool pick. They destroyed the Buccaneers on the road, snapping a three-game winning streak by their division rival. I was hoping some upsets would happen on Sunday to knock some of the remaining 15 other players out of my pool. But it didn’t happen as the chalk took care of business for the most part on Sunday.
There were a couple upsets, but those weren’t really a factor in my Survivor Pool. The Colts upset the Packers in Green Bay as a 7.5-point underdog, and Minnesota was laying 4.5 points at home vs. the Lions and lost 22-16.

Here in this spot each week I will go over the NFL opening lines for the week and highlight any favorites that I think are possible NFL Survivor Pool picks for that week. This is an exercise I do every week to help me whittle down the pool of matchups into 3-5 possible picks that I will do further research on during the week to make my official pick.
There looks to be two strong picks this week. And it’s probable that neither of these teams have been used in most pools. I really think there will be an extraordinary amount of contestants that will finish perfect through all 17 weeks in Survivor Pools this year. There are two pretty good fade teams to go against down the stretch in Cleveland and Jacksonville, and the way pools have shaken out this year most competitors still have some good teams in their arsenal left to use.
Here are the NFL Week 10 opening lines with my thoughts on the matchups as potential Survivor Pool picks.
NFL Survivor Pool Picks Week 10 Opening Line Report
Baltimore -10 vs. Cleveland (Thursday): The Browns are the best fade team in the NFL this season at 0-9. With every week that goes by I am becoming more convinced that this team can go 0-16 on the year, although I still think they win a game at some point. The Ravens looked great in Week 9 in thumping the Steelers at home, and the final score was more complementary to the Steelers than it should have been as they scored some points late when the Ravens were protecting the lead. Even though I have used a couple Thursday night matchups this season, I generally try and stay away from them. There are too many intangibles involved on a short week of rest. And this is a divisional matchup, which is another reason I am not super excited about Baltimore here. However, I still think this is the second-strongest pick this week and this is one I will research further during the week.
Carolina -3 vs. Kansas City: I said last week I think the Panthers are a team that could finish the season really strong and that I still think of them as a dark-horse wild-card contender. I think the Chiefs are due for a loss here sometime soon, and this will be a real tough game for them. The Chiefs are banged up but should have QB Alex Smith back in this matchup. But the RB situation is still unclear, and TE Travis Kelce may face disciplinary action from the NFL for his dumb antics against the refs on Sunday. Kansas City could have easily lost the game Sunday to the Jaguars but they were lucky to get a lot of turnovers in that game. They probably won’t be so lucky this weekend. I have already used the Panthers but had I not then I would seriously consider them here for Week 10 Survivor Pool picks.
San Diego -3.5 vs. Miami: No thanks; I will pass on this one. The Chargers are playing well, no doubt, but I just still don’t trust this team. They were ahead by 15 late Sunday against the Titans and I thought that Tennessee had a good chance to get back in the game. No lead is safe with this team. These are two of the most erratic, unpredictable teams in the league, and the Chargers are a team I won’t use until very late in the season – if at all – when I am really desperate and there aren’t many other viable options.
Arizona -13.5 vs. San Francisco: Since I had my pick on Thursday last week I looked ahead early at the Week 10 NFL schedule and this game stood out to me immediately, although I have to admit I was surprised that this spread turned out to be so big as I thought it would be a shade under 10 points. But this is the game I am likely targeting for my NFL Survivor Pool pick for Week 10. The Cardinals are coming off a bye, which really tilts me in their favor over the Ravens in the Thursday night matchup. They weren’t playing great before the bye but didn’t embarrass themselves, either. But they really need this game and I think they will give their best effort. The Niners have lost seven straight and looked helpless in a Sunday home blowout loss to New Orleans. This should be the most popular pick for Week 10 Survivor Pools, and I’m pretty sure that with all the remaining players in my pool that the picks will be split between Arizona and San Francisco. So if you want to go against the grain you may want to consider going with a team like Carolina with a smaller spread in case these big favorites both suffer upsets.
New England -7.5 vs. Seattle: As I write this the Seahawks have yet to play their Week 9 Monday Night Football game vs. Buffalo. But assuming they win and come out of the game healthy then this line should not change much. Most Survivor Pool players have already used New England, so I won’t spend a lot of time on this one. But for those that haven’t used them I would recommend them almost every week as this is the one shining star in what is otherwise an NFL season with widespread parity. This is the best team in the league by far, and they may not lose another game in the regular season.
